Similarities and Differences in Schizophrenia and Mood Disorder

Abstract
Thcre¢¥s not yet a clear answer for the question -a single entity or nvo other ones?¢¥ in mood disorder, especially bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. But the comparative hiologic treatment provides considerable similarities and ovcrlappings in the treatment of schizophrenia and mood disorder. Although classic neuroleptics might speed the response of acute manic symptoms, they frequently induce the depressive symptoms and tardiyc dykinesia. Atypical antipsyclhotics seem to possess an important role in the adjunctive treatment of mood disorder at ]cast, and especially clozapine may have mood stablizing ctfccts as nionotherapy. On the contrary, lithum and anticonyulsants, car bamazcpine and yalproic acid, appear to be minimally or not of ectiye in the trcatmcnt and prevention of schizophrenic symptoms and episodes.
